Welcome to the International Agricultural Research Centers Homepage of the GFAR. IARCs have a comparative advantage in strategic and applied research, and work closely with national agricultural research systems in developing countries. International Agricultural Research Centers (IARCs) have been established to provide research results for poor farmers in poor countries. They have a comparative advantage for strategic research (directed toward solving problems of a broad global or regional nature) and applied research (directed toward solving more narrowly focused, location-specific problems). Most IARCs are headquartered in developing countries and/or have regional offices in a wide array of locations around the developing world. This gives them the advantage of being able to work closely with NARS as partners. In addition, IARCs can play an important role in research activities of a public goods nature, transcending national and regional interests. We hope that this website will help to build awareness of GFAR among a broader cross-section of IARCs. We would also like to see the website used to gain input and feedback from the other constituencies. As we develop this page further you will find information on activities undertaken by the IARC constituency of GFAR, plus discussion papers and link to websites of active members. Please feel free to give us your comments on ways to improve this site. We also encourage you to participate in upcoming dialogues and to suggest topics for new ones.
