Proposed Architecture and Workflow for Managing Decentralized Information on Organizations Using a Central Registry File  
During the last Content Management Taskforce meeting in Wageningen (March 2007), the issue was raised of what the overall workflow should be in managing information on organizations in a decentralized way in order to avoid the proliferation of databases and the problem of duplication, and a distributed architecture with a central Registry File was proposed in order to manage information on organizations uniformly on a global scale. >>

Proposed Application Profile for describing Organizations  
FAO, GFAR and Wageningen International have proposed an Application Profile (a metadata format) for describing Organizations. The AP is available from the FAO AIMS website for comments. >>

"MIS": coherently managing information on organizations, projects and experts  
Management Information Systems (MIS) provide information on objects related to the management of activities and projects in ARD: organizations, experts, projects and project outputs. In correlating these types of information in a comprehensive and structured information service coherence and coordination are essential. >>

Standards in Agricultural Information  
Some standards already exist for facilitating information exchange and service interoperability in the agricultural field. The Agricultural Information Management Standards website managed by FAO aims at coordinating and harmonizing "the decentralized efforts currently taking place in the development of methodologies, standards and applications for management of agricultural information systems". >>
