The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam is a multifaceted centre of expertise for international cooperation, healthcare and culture. Its main focus is on sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
KIT Development Policy & Practice contributes to reducing poverty and inequality in the world and to support sustainable development. We carry out research and provide advisory services and training in order to build and share knowledge on a wide range of development issues. Key to our approach is a focus on both policy and practice for development: we bring experience from the field to the policy debate and we bring theory into practice, translating initiatives between global, national and decentralized levels.
The area Sustainable Economic Development aims to improve the livelihoods of small-scale producers and entrepreneurs in developing countries. Our focus is on stimulating pro-poor economic growth and good governance in rural areas while supporting social equity and environmental sustainability. Our work comprises operational projects (business venture development, value chain facilitation) as well as knowledge activities (action-research, training, monitoring and evaluation, multi-stakeholder learning processes). To strengthen the team, the department is looking for an:
Advisor for inclusive business development
for an average of 38 hours per week
Main responsibilities:
(1) Identify, structure and support pro-poor business ventures from early conception to business planning, investment and implementation
(2) Document, analyse and publish experiences and results with inclusive business development
(3) Develop methodologies, tools and training material in the area of inclusive business development
(4) Provide advisory services and conduct short-term missions in the area of inclusive business development in Africa, Latin America and Asia
(5) Pro-active networking with private companies in Europe to engage these in inclusive business development in Africa, Latin America and Asia
(6) Acquire external financing for activities
