APAARI - Vacancy: APARIS Coordinator [DEADLINE EXTENDED]

APAARI is seeking a well-qualified and experienced person for the position of Coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Agricultural Research Information System (APARIS). Deadline for applications extended to 31st January 2009.

Position Title: Coordinator, Asia-Pacific Agricultural Research Information System (APARIS Coordinator) 

The Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) is seeking a well-qualified and experienced person for the position of APARIS Coordinator with the Terms of Reference as follows: 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Executive Secretary, APAARI the incumbent will be functioning from the APAARI Secretariat at Bangkok, Thailand, and will have the following responsibilities:
• To promote ICT activities emphasizing on information dissemination mechanism and its management through APARIS Network .
• Prepare well documented scientific/technical reports and the Agenda as well as background papers for the APAARI/APARIS meetings/workshops/trainings, etc.
• Towards strengthening APARIS, bring out timely the publications of Newsletter, Success Story, Brochures, Special Publications on important topics, etc. Keep liaison with diverse stakeholders to disseminate and get the materials needed for various publications.
• Organize and maintain APAARI web site with regular updating of information on the output of APAARI Program of Work.
• Collate/establish database on research institutions, research programs and human resources of National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS), Agricultural Research Information Network/Gateway, etc.
• On behalf of APAARI represent APARIS in different For a related with ICT, as considered necessary.
• Coordinate various APAARI activities, keeping liaison with NARS, IARCs, FAO, and related international and regional organizations, and assist APAARI Secretariat in various organizational matters. 

Qualifications and Experience
• University Degree with B.E./B.Tech. in Computers/Information Technology or Master of Computer Application with five years of work experience in a reputed organization. Alternatively Ph.D. in Agriculture with experience in information technology.
• Good skills and experience in ICT, preferably related to agricultural research and development.
• Experience of editing and publishing scientific documents.
• Excellent communication skill (both oral and written) in English. 

Salary and Benefits 
APAARI will offer appropriate consolidated salary in US Dollar (including nominal house allowance and medical insurance). Salary will be negotiable based on experience and capability. 

Terms and Conditions
This is a tenurial position to begin with for two years and extendable for another term based on successful completion of probation period of one year and good performance.
