Position: Director of Finance & Administration at ILRI

Place: Nairobi, Kenya. Deadline: February 1st 2008.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is a vibrant global research institution with a mandate to reduce poverty, hunger and environmental degradation by enhancing animal agriculture in developing countries through the application of science and technology

ILRI headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, with another principal campus in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and other ILRI staff in ten partner organizations/offices in Africa and Asia. ILRI’s annual budget is about USD50 million. We employ more than 600 staff from about 40 countries and are one of 15 international research centres sponsored by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

Reporting to the ILRI Director General, the Director of Finance & Administration will design, adapt and implement systems so that the finance and administrative functions effectively and efficiently support the achievement of the institute’s strategic objectives and reflect best practice. S/he will be leading an able and committed team. As a member of the senior leadership team s/he will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives to respond to a fast changing and complex environment.

The ideal candidate should have a master's degree in business administration (MBA) or public administration (MPA) with a professional accountancy qualification, at least 10 years of progressively complex, hands-on experience in a managerial capacity, demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural settings and to build productive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders. The position is located at ILRI headquarters, in Nairobi, Kenya, and requires frequent travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as well as occasional travel to other ILRI locations.
