CSO-GARD Forum
Civil-society organisations (CSOs) have self-organised the CSO-GARD (CSO Group on Agricultural Research for Development), an international platform of people in CSOs that want to engage with the global, regional, subregional and national multi-stakeholder fora on ARD. The group promotes an innovation systems approach in which smallholder farmers (including pastoralists, forest dwellers and fisherfolk) are indispensable and equal partners in ARD.
The platform arose out of the CSOs involved in GCARD2010 in Montpellier, France. In the meantime, it has expanded to include those who were involved in GCARD2012 in Punta del Este, Uruguay, as well as other members of civil society who seek to create favourable conditions for smallholder farmer organisations (FOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to engage constructively with other stakeholders in ARD. The platform allows a broad spectrum of CSOs to exchange information and views around issues and examples of farmer-led, pro-poor and ecologically oriented ARD.
