 International Trypanotolerance Centre (ITC) is seeking a new Director General

ITC is an independent regional research institute located in Banjul, the Gambia. Its mission is to contribute to the effort of increasing livestock productivity and utilisation in low input and market orientated production systems of West Africa with particular reference to the coastal countries of The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Senegal and Sierra Leone through the optimal and sustainable exploitation of livestock for the welfare of the human populations. The present Director General , Dr. K. Agyemang, will be leaving at the end of 2005 and the ITC Council is seeking his replacement.

Applicants should have:

  • a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
  • a minimum of 10 years experience in research and/or livestock development in sub-Saharan Africa
  • strong qualities of leadership and effective interpersonal skills in order to strengthen the collaboration between the NARS of the region
  • proven experience of fundraising and financial management
  • an established reputation as a manager of scientific research
  • a good record of publications in international journals
  • proficiency in written and spoken English and French

Preference will be given to candidates from West Africa. The selected candidate will be expected to commence duties by 1 November 2005 if possible. A competitive and attractive salary and benefits packages will be provided. ITC is an equal opportunity employer.
